John Norman Harvey and Amelia Prudence Brattan
2-John Norman Harvey was born on 4 Aug 1863 in Westbury, Tasmania and died from typhoid on 16 Apr 1898 in Hagley, Tasmania at age 34.
John married Amelia Prudence Brattan, daughter of James Brattan and Rebecca Ashman, on 8 Jun 1887 in Westbury, Tasmania. Amelia was born on 9 Aug 1863 in Dairy Plains, Deloraine, Tasmania. Amelia was also known as Emily Prudence Bratten. Emily’s family were neighbouring farmers in the Queenstown area of Westbury, on a property in Ritchie Street called Horton Vale. They had three children:
- Linda Rebecca
- Norman George and
- Florence Emily.
3-Linda Rebecca Harvey was born on 12 Jan 1889 in Westbury, Tasmania.
3-Norman George Harvey was born on 14 Jan 1891 in Deloraine, Tasmania, was christened in 1891, died on 16 Jan 1954 in Westbury, Tasmania at age 63, and was buried on 17 Jan 1954 in Westbury Cemetery. Norman married Elizabeth Jane Scott, daughter of Walter Lewis Scott and Jane Mantach. Elizabeth was born on 6 Sep 1891 in Westbury, Tasmania and died on 8 Apr 1957 at age 65.
Norman joined the AIF in 1915, his occupation being a farmer. His unit was the 3rd Light Horse and he achieved the rank of sergeant and served in the Middle East (Palestine, Egypt, Abbassia and Romani). He was the butcher in Westbury in the 1950’s, and farmed the property the other side of Quamby Creek, on the Meander Way between Westbury and Exton. He died on the farm whilst harvesting a crop. Allen was the health inspector for the Westbury Council and John inherited the farm following their father’s death.
