George Goss is alleged to have been born at Barrington, but solemnly declares on his attestation paper at enlistment that he was born near Longford, presumably believing that he had been born at Liffey. George visited England after the war, and brought home to Barrington a newly acquired bride, Lillian, nee Friend, of Dorset.

George was a notable setter and digger of spuds, holding the record of 45 bags, sewn and loaded within eight hours. His record was set on Al French's property, but he also worked in like capacity for the Van Diemen's Land Company at Highclere and Hampshire. George was a true lover of the land, and in later life spent much time helping his grandson, David, on his property at Hampshire.
